1 year later!...

Today is the one-year anniversary of my first novel being published. What an amazing year it's been! I've met lots of new people, and I've learned a lot about the people already in my life, but mostly I've learned a lot about myself. Not only have I self-published the next three books in the Black Rose series since then, but I've also become a traditionally published author with Forever Lost.
Friends have become fans, and fans have become friends, and I am so grateful to those who've given me and my novels a chance. I think most of my readers were shocked by the content, but came on board quickly with the darker themes once you released where I was going and why I did it. Those who couldn't get on with it, that's okay, not everything is for everyone.
I started out with a shy little dream and a fear of letting people in my strange mind, but now I'm more confident and ambitious than ever before. I know what I want from my life, and I'm determined to keep on going until my mind is empty of stories and I'm free of the characters and scenarios that haunt my mind day and night - if that can ever actually happen! I often wonder what the mind of a writer is like in comparison to other people's. I've always created people and places in my head, and then told myself stories about them. I never realised that this wasn't 'normal' until I was an adult, and even then it took me far too long to figure out how to write them down.
I couldn't have done any of this without you guys! If you weren't reading my books and giving me the support and encouragement to carry on, I would not be where I am today, so thank you all from the bottom of my heart. This journey has been wonderful, and I'm not stopping any time soon xxx

Reflecting on the past

Wow, where do I even being to cover everything I've been up to the past few weeks? It's been crazy. I had 2 book releases within 2 weeks of each other, and so far the responses to both Destined for Darkness and Forever Lost has been mostly great. I say mostly, I've only had a tiny bit of negative feedback, and one review wasn't actually true to the storyline, so I'm not 100% sure the reader understood the novel, and that makes me sad. The others have simply been 1star ratings on Goodreads, which also makes me sad as they've not given me any other feedback. I can never be sure why they felt compelled to only rate the book with 1star.
There seems to be a lot of backlash at the moment from authors feeling as though they deserve proper feedback from those who decide to leave a review. One liners are not usually helpful, but at the same time readers have given you their time already by reading your book, and I never expect an essay as review. I would appreciate a reason why someone didn't like my book, but at the same time I also know that I do not enjoy every book I read. I've never left fewer than 3star reviews as I'm not inclined to put authors down, and that was the same even before I brought out my own novels. Either way, I loved writing Forever Lost, just as much as my black Rose series, and I hope that those who continue to read it enjoy it. If not, please be kind!
It's just coming up to my 1 year anniversary of publishing my first book, Embracing the Darkness. I cannot believe a whole year has already gone by, and I've truly loved every step of the way. I've learned a huge amount since hitting that scary button on Amazon KDP, and I feel as though I grow as a writer with each new story. I love writing, and feel it's something inside of me I've unleashed at long last, and that will never be put away ever again.
Please tell me those of you who wander by this little blog of mine continue to do so, and as always please comment below so that we can start some interaction. I feel as though these little musings of mine disappear into the ether after I've written them, but hope not!
Lots of love xx

What a crazy time

The past few weeks have been an absolute whirlwind of emotions and very busy days with these little books of mine ;-) I released book four of my Black Rose series a week ago, and have had loads of amazing feedback and reviews already. I'm so glad everyone who's given their time to my series is not left feeling as though their invested emotion has been wasted on Cate and her family of dark and light beings.
There is only one book left in their tale, and it will be the culmination of every question unanswered and cliffhangers I've teased you with along the way. I have thoroughly enjoyed coming up with their dark world, and truly appreciate those of you that have immersed yourselves in it with me, and become believers in my new worlds of light and dark :-)

So many people ask me where the inspiration comes from for these books, and I honestly can only ever say that it is all from my own imagination. Yes there are plenty of shows, movies and books out there along the same devil/demon/angel theme, but I hand-on-heart do not ever use their storylines as inspiration. My mind is full of vivid and very real worlds that I can close my eyes and transport to, and as odd as that sounds it is very true.
I've always had this strange gift, and never realised that it was because I was a writer until my mid-twenties. Now that I've cultivated that gift, those ideas are flowing in a way I can't, and don't want to, stop. I think when you are truly a creative mind, you don't need to copy anyone else, and hope to continue that way for the rest of my life.
You might be wondering why I find myself explaining this issue. It's not that anyone has accused me of copying storylines or anything, it's actually the complete opposite.
We learn new lessons every day!

A huge thank you!

Hey guys,

I just wanted to take a moment to thank all those who've read, reviewed, given feedback etc. etc. of my novels so far. Yesterday I released the fourth book in my Black Rose series, Destined for Darkness, and my Facebook feed went crazy :-) I had lots of friends and stranger messaging, commenting and tagging me in their statuses telling me how excited they were to read my next instalment, and my heart sang.
Some had made plans to spend their Friday nights with a glass of wine and my book, and I don't think they realised just how much that meant to me! To give me a few hours of your time is a gift I can never repay. So, thank you x

When I first sat down to give this writing thing a go, I was terrified of ever showing another soul my work. I was so very fearful of harsh critique and haters, something which I still struggle with, but I decided to go for it with the help and support of my loved ones, and I am so very glad I did. I know my series is not for everyone, it's dark and I love pushing the boundaries, but those who've come on board have been a tremendous force at my back to spur me on. I'm never without inspiration, but having the guts to carry on has been my biggest hurdle, and now I know I'll never look back ever again.
This journey of mine isn't going to stop, so thank you again to all those that have come on board with me, and to those who might be lagging behind - it's ok. You're welcome to catch up anytime you wish ;-)

I love you all xxx

Destined for Darkness - released 14th November

Whoa, I'm so very lucky to be having two books released within a few weeks of each other! I've been promoting Forever Lost so much lately, I feel as though I've been neglecting my wonderful Black Rose series!

So, here is it is, in case you've forgotten ;-)

Cate Rose, the omnipotent Dark Queen and ruler of Hell is torn. Her only brother, Devin Black, has betrayed her trust and gone behind her back in order to further his own supremacy on Earth. Not content with just being the powerful leader of their secretive dark order, the Crimson Brotherhood, Devin wants more and it seems he has gone to great lengths to try and obtain it.

While the young demon, and Cate’s eldest son’s fiancée Tilly, recovers from yet another near death experience, this time at her own omnipotent hands, Cate has an important decision to make.
But, which future will she choose to bestow on her brother?
Should Cate place her trust in the demon that has abused his position so treasonously? Or can she forgive his selfishness and give him the chance to atone by making the ultimate sacrifice? Allowing Devin his much-desired prize of an earthly throne will come at a price, but will Lucifer’s eldest son be ready to make the deal of a lifetime?

In this, the fourth instalment of the Black Rose series, you will learn more about the Crimson Brotherhood and its history, significance and the changes they will have to bring about in order to achieve the all important balance that each and every being atop the Hellish and Heavenly thrones are working hard to accomplish.

Get ready for the darkest instalment of the Black Rose series!

***PLEASE NOTE***
Please be aware that this novel depicts explicit sexual relationships between consenting adults, including romantic suspense and instances of forced consent. It may not be suitable for those under the age of 18.

The diary is looking good!

Wow, I've been invited to go along to another signing event. How amazing! This one will be held at Aintree Racecourse in Liverpool, UK in March 2016.
Still a long way to go, but I'm really excited to have begun booking in for signing events and cannot wait to see how they all go :-)
I would've never believed I could've found such an amazing group of supportive authors via social media, ones that help promote one another and recognise each other's hard work along the way.

I'll post more info as time goes on, and in the meantime I've got a table at my local Christmas Fair to look forward to in a few weeks time. Not sure how many books I'll sell, but you never know!

A moment to look back

This writing journey has been amazing and I am so thankful for those quiet moments when I get to sit and make up stories in my head. There are times I wish for more time, more peace and quiet.
But, I know it's foolish. I want to take a moment to look back on one part of the last year when I had lots of quiet time, but that wasn't so hot. When I think back to how poorly I was this time last year I can't help but feel so very lucky.
I've never been hit by something as bad as the bronchitis that floored me for 4weeks last October, and never want to again! When every breath you takes is painful and you can taste the infection inside of you with each exhale, it is incredibly scary. I didn't want to eat, had no energy to move and no breath to talk. I was a zombie, and I'm so glad to have gotten past it and had a healthy year since then.
Sometimes we all should sit back and take stock of the good and bad, the trials and the triumphs.
I feel very lucky for all the good in my life xxx

In other news....

Hi everyone,
I have had a super crazy and very exciting day FILMING (yes you read that right) an interview/mini documentary for Forces TV that should be airing in a couple of weeks :-)
I am so excited, this has been in the works for a few weeks now but I didn't want to announce it until I knew for sure that we were going ahead. I will put up the timings and links to the web page as and when I know the details, but for now I'm super excited to have been given the opportunity to tell my story about my life as an army wife and writer.
Many people think they know or can understand what it is like to be married into the forces life, but there are many sides and many different types of person that this world creates and while I'm not one for defining myself by what my husband does with his career, I am also affected by it tremendously. This piece is my story, my own independence from his career and the person I have become since finding that voice inside of me that wanted to tell these stories.
I hope you all take a few minutes to have a watch when the time comes, and I'll be forever grateful to the lovely people at Forces TV / BFBS who have taken the time to let me tell my story.

First thing's first though, I'm going to kick back and relax with a few drinks and a Chinese takeaway! Happy Friday everyone! x

A new fun site

I have got to tell you all about this fantastic new site I have been introduced to by a fellow author, Cassie Lewis.
This site lets readers put together the ideal cast for if their favourite books were ever turned into a movie or TV series :-) What a great idea, I've had loads of fun this afternoon putting in all of my top choices, and seeing them all listed together looks amazing, almost like its very own IMDB page!

You've gotta get in on this, not just for my books but for others too, great fun!

And even book 4, you'll have to wait and see if you agree on my choices!

Thinking back over the year so far

I can honestly say that this year has so far been the most amazing experience. What started out as a little bit of writing for fun has turned into a journey I could never have imagined.

Every month my books are selling, being reviewed and enjoyed by the vast majority - I know full well that I will never please everybody :-) I cannot thank those giving my series a try enough, you owe me nothing and yet you're giving my stories your time and imagination, when you think about it that's an amazing gift you've given me, and I can never repay you other than to offer my heartfelt appreciation!

I'm also incredibly excited about some of the opportunities that have come my way recently, not just the book signing event in Birmingham next summer but also the possibility of a contract that will turn me from an indie author to a hybrid, and a very exciting appearance on a national TV channel that I am bursting to fill everybody in on but am currently keeping under wraps until things are finalised. Exciting times ahead

Wow,
I've been so busy this week getting all sorts of wonderful things in place and I have to admit I am loving all of these crazy days and making big plans!
This week I have had confirmation that I have a seat at the Second City Signing event being held in Birmingham, UK, next July. I'm so excited, this will be my first ever signing event and I absolutely cannot wait to interact with other authors as well as the readers.
I intend to be offering signed copies, along with free gifts and prizes to those who want to come and buy my books, and all five in my Black Rose series will be available by then so I shall be selling box-sets for new readers as well.
If any of you are in the area and fancy coming to say hi, please do! I'm happy to sign copies that people might already own, and it would be fantastic to hear any feedback on the series at the same time.
I have some more exciting news coming your way, dearest blog-browsers, but for now I am keeping it to myself :-)
Watch this space! x

Saturday morning musings...

So,
I've been taking a lot of time out from the actual writing side of this author lark to put some effort into networking and I have to admit that so far it really seems to be paying off. I've met some great fellow authors and avid readers and I've had a good boost in sales, especially for the first novel in my series which is great because then (fingers crossed) if the reader likes it they will then be looking to buy the next one, and so on.

I've gone into this whole self-published-author thing with a very real expectation as to my goals, I know that the viewing public might like, loathe, be unsure or downright uninterested in my work and I'm okay with that. My novels aren't for every one, there are dark themes, the concepts of religion have been completely spun off in crazy angles and I haven't shied away from intense, romantic scenes. I know that not everyone will like it, but I am very grateful for those of you out there who are giving it a try, especially those that send me Facebook messages and comment on my page to let me know how much you have enjoyed them!

I'm keeping on going, the fourth book is pretty much done and so far I'm 65k words into the fifth and final book of the Black Rose series. As a whole the story is a wonder even to me, I truly feel for the characters and put myself in their shoes, I feel their happiness and pain deep in my soul, and hope that it is portrayed in my storytelling.

One thing I know for sure, I'm not stopping! If gothic/paranormal romance isn't for you, keep your eyes open because there's much more up my sleeve to come yet xxx

Teaser!! An excerpt from Forever Darkness, Book 3 in the Black Rose series

“You continue to astound me my love, you really do know me so much better than I know myself sometimes. I often wonder just how you could possibly love something so terrible as me? I’ve been a mess ever since the day we met and yet you stayed through it all. What would I ever do without you Harry?” Cate asked, wrapping her arms around him tightly and snuggling into his chest, breathing in his gorgeous natural scent deeply. It still surprised her that he could possibly smell the same even after all these years in Hell, and him now being so far away from the human man she had known all those years ago. And yet, when she closed her eyes and took a deep breath, Cate felt as though she were transported back the almost one-hundred years to his small flat and their tiny little secluded existence on Earth together. She could still picture their small home clearly, hear the sound of the birds singing in the trees outside, smell his freshly laundered bed sheets as they lay wrapped in each other's arms under them and she could even imagine the spring sunshine as it streamed in through the open window and shined in onto his glorious, sexy body. Thinking back to those days made her smile and as she looked up into his deep blue eyes, Cate couldn’t help but fall madly in love with Harry all over again.
“Was there ever any doubt in your mind, any question of what I was willing to do or how much I would take in order to be here with you Cate?” he asked, running his strong hands through her long, dark curls and then planting a deep kiss on her red lips.

“Never,” she admitted as he pulled back from his kiss, smiling again at last.

Real life getting in the way of art!

Hi everyone,
Thanks to all the new viewers for stopping by, feel free to post comments if you like, it'd be great to meet people from all over the world with a love of all things dark, gothic, romantic and if you're anything like me - just downright strange!
I've been having a bit of a struggle with everyday life at the minute, narrow-minded and childish people being the main reason for it. I fail to understand the human brain, especially women, sometimes. Why is it that when someone is happy and is quite literally 'living the dream' do other people feel the need to belittle them for their own benefit? I get it, they aren't happy with their own existence and so are envious of those who are doing well for themselves or who are succeeding in an otherwise hard world, but seriously? Are we still in the school playground with the Queen Bee sat atop her throne while her minions all buzz around her and if you dare to be different you are shunned and treated like the worst person that Queen, and subsequently her minions, has ever known?
If this is real life, then it is getting in my way and can get stuffed! I am what I am, I am who I want to be and I will not change that for anyone. I am not a Queen bee, and my god do I never want to be!
Live your lives people, live them for you and for your families, live them for the ones you love and who love you back because when it all ends they are the ones you will hold in your heart, not the people who tried to get in your way!
Let's build a world where we all encourage one another to do our best, I certainly plan to go out kicking and screaming :-) xxx

New projects

I've just put the finishing touches to my new novel, a stand alone book completely separate to my Black Rose series and I'm super proud of it I must admit!
This one is a crime/romance novel (is that even a genre?) hard to label it but it is definitely not gothic or paranormal, the idea came to me just a few weeks ago and I've been slaving away ever since. In three weeks I have 82k words for the skeletal draft, a pretty good effort I'd say and tonight I put the finishing touches to the ending. I was toying with the happy/obvious/kill everyone (joke) finish but i think i got the right dynamic. This novel is not part of a series after all and so cliffhangers most certainly aren't allowed, but I have devised a nice way of ending it that leaves the future open to interpretation by the reader which I hope will be a nice way of doing it. Perhaps during the editing phase I will leave all doubt aside and write in a quick epilogue but I will just have to wait and see what feels right.
I can't wait to get my beta readers on the go soon, then I'll know for sure if it was well received or seen as too much of a cliffhanger i suppose. I look forward to bringing my readers a new tale, a new twist on my normal writing genre but with ever the same style and passion.

Inspiration from my heroes

So, I've been reading Stephen King's, 'on writing' and wow! I can thoroughly recommend it and I've only just started! One of the first things that has really stuck - he says about having writer friends and that we never ask each other where we get our idea's from, because we all know that we just don't know! I love it, so true because so many people ask that question and it's impossible to answer
